Acting as a first point of contact for employees as a HSE Officer, in this role you will ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental laws in the workplace, creating a safe work environment and promoting a safe and sustainable culture of the business across all global locations. The role works closely with external stakeholders such as Local and Governmental Authorities in each of the company’s sites to ensure our arrangements are suitable.
 
Health and Safety Officer
Location: Outskirts of Oxford
Salary: Negotiable + Excellent Benefits (listed later)
 
Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing health and safety policy and plans.
  • Monitor existing and implement new policies to ensure effective compliance with guidelines and legislation in relation to HSE.
  • Conduct H&S induction for new joiners globally and any relevant training.
  • Communicate guidelines, goals, progress, and achievements to employees.
  • Respond to H&S emergencies, incidents, and accidents; record, investigate causes, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Create and maintain up-to-date risk assessments, processes, and procedures to mitigate any occupational hazards.
  • Ensure emergency procedures are in place, and tests and drills are performed as required.
  • Ensure relevant staff training is in place where required, including maintaining a training register and identifying new training needs and renewals.
  • Monitor performance and drive improvements related to our environmental and sustainability impact.
  • Hazard identification and control, including but not limited to:
    • Fire & Life Safety
    • Accident & Injury prevention
    • Emergency Preparedness
    • Ergonomics
    • Industrial Hygiene
  • Other duties as reasonably requested by the business.

 
Candidate Requirements
 
Qualifications

  • NEBOSH General Certificate
  • University Degree or equivalent work experience

 
Skills

  • Management of HSE function within UK manufacturing, engineering or scientific laboratory services business. Desirable to have worked across EU, USA, and APAC regions.
  • Leading Health & Safety and Environmental initiatives with the ability to influence stakeholders across all areas of a business.
  • Issue-resolution and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and communicate with the relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creation, management, and implementation of documentation, processes, and procedures with adherence to applicable national standards.
  • Knowledge of HSE regulations across global territories (e.g. US, EU, JP).
  • UK Health, Safety and Environmental standards, bodies, and regulations (PUWER, RIDDOR, LOLER etc.).
  • Creation and implementation of COSHH risk assessments.
