We are working with an Oxford-based Biotech Start-up building a platform that will bring a culture-free era in microbiology diagnostics. Our technology can identify bacteria and fungi from clinical samples and rapidly produce their antimicrobial profile in under 3 hours, compared to the current standard of 3 days when facing a patient with an acute microbial infection. The success of this technology will ensure a revolution in the microbiology diagnostic space and set the standard for tomorrow.
 
We are an early-stage start-up looking to hire our first employees to help lead our R&D work and help us on our mission to win against superbugs, we need the best and brightest to join and enable this ambitious vision.
 
As an experienced Machine Learning Researcher/Scientist for a hands-on role leading a team based in Oxford, you will get to experience building the company with the founders’ team. As a Lead ML Scientist, you will be responsible for managing the planning, designing, engineering, and building of our inference engine. You will need to manage tasks and allocate resources in conjunction with the management team and other Engineers, ensuring the delivery of engineering work to deadlines and developing and managing direct reports.
 
What We’re Looking For:

• Experience or a degree in a relevant field of computer science, mathematics, or physics; candidates would typically have an equivalent of 3+ years of work experience. We need you to lead our early efforts.
• Experience in feature engineering of two-dimensional time series data/signal processing.
• Proficiency in statistical model, deep learning models, and ensemble models
• Experience in taking research literature/outcomes and emerging ML technologies and deploying them in practice.
• Experience in model interpretation would be a plus.
• Built pipeline packages with industry-standard codebases.
• Build pipeline deployable in a medical setting would be a plus.
• Ideally, experience or knowledge of greater aspects of the development landscape is preferred such as ISO 13485 / Medical Devices
