We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Business Development Manager to join a biotechnology start-up based in Oxford developing cutting-edge in vitro diagnostic technologies to detect livestock pathogens in the field. As an EU Business Development Manager, your primary goal will be to expand our market presence across the European Union, especially in the UK, Spain, Germany, and Denmark, targeting a diverse customer base including livestock industry, veterinary hospitals, governmental agencies, and academic institutions. This position will involve frequent travel to Oxford HQ and clients across the EU as required.
Business Development Manager – Animal Disease Testing
Location: Remote (frequent travel to Oxford / Client sites)
Salary: Up to £55,000 + Commission + Equity + Benefits Package

  • Market Knowledge: Maintain a deep understanding of the veterinary diagnostic market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes within the EU, using this information to inform strategic decisions.
  • Identifying New Business Leads: Actively seek out new business opportunities and partnerships that align with our company’s strategic goals in the EU market.
  • Collaboration Opportunities: Explore and establish collaborative research or commercial projects that enhance our product offerings and market reach.
  • Client Relationship Management: Build and nurture strong relationships with existing and potential clients and customers, ensuring their needs are met and fostering long-term engagement.
  • Project Management: Oversee and manage various business development projects from inception to completion, ensuring they align with company objectives and timelines.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Develop and implement effective marketing strategies and materials. Represent the company at trade shows, conferences, and other events to promote our products and technologies.
  • Grant Application Assistance: Assist in identifying, applying for, and managing grants relevant to our industry and business objectives.
  • Hosting Networking Workshops: Organize and host workshops and networking events to foster industry connections, share knowledge, and strengthen our market presence.
  • Communication with R&D Team: Ensuring alignment of business strategies with product development and innovation.

Desirable Skills:

  • B2B Expertise: Proven experience in Business-to-Business sales, particularly in the livestock or veterinary sector.
  • Sales Prospecting: Skilled in identifying and developing new sales leads and opportunities.
  • Lead Generation: Ability to generate leads that translate into tangible business growth.
  • Industry Knowledge: Solid understanding of the livestock / animal health industry, particularly in veterinary diagnostics or vaccination.
  • Event Participation: Experience in participating in exhibitions, trade shows, and other relevant industry events.
  • Account Management: Proficient in managing client accounts and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Presentation Skills: Strong ability to create and deliver engaging presentations to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Industry Relationships: Good relationships with industry or academia leaders in the field of swine health.
  • Language Proficiency: Native or fluent in Spanish, to effectively communicate with a diverse client base.
