Senior Optical Engineer
Location: Germany – On-site

About the Role
Join a team developing next-generation quantum computing systems. These systems use advanced laser and optical technologies to perform computations beyond classical capabilities. You will contribute to the design, development, and operation of optical systems and test equipment that enable cutting-edge quantum technologies.

What You’ll Do

  • Collaborate with an international team of physicists and engineers across multiple disciplines.

  • Define and refine requirements for optical modulation in scalable quantum systems.

  • Specify requirements and coordinate with suppliers and partners.

  • Design, develop, and test optical components and systems, including modulators.

  • Generate test reports and clearly communicate results to the team.

  • Integrate optical modulation control with electronics and software systems.

  • Support the design and detection of single-photon signals and other quantum optical measurements.

Your Profile

  • Master’s or M.Eng. in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.

  • In-depth knowledge of electro-optical and acousto-optical modulation.

  • Experience with single-photon detectors and image processing.

  • Familiarity with basic signal processing concepts.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of practical experience in industry or research.

  • Knowledge of real-time electronics and signal processing.

  • Hands-on experience with laser systems for advanced scientific experiments.

  • Understanding of technical concepts for collaboration with software teams; programming experience is a plus.

  • Experience with laser spectroscopy and laser cooling techniques.
