Senior Microwave Engineer
Germany – On-site Full-time
About the Company
Join one of the largest quantum computing players in Germany and Europe. The team is building world-class quantum computers using an innovative approach that blends advanced physics with precision engineering. Their systems aim to tackle problems that remain unsolvable with classical technology, enabling breakthroughs across science, technology, and industry.
The Role
As a Senior Microwave Engineer, you’ll help design, build, and operate state-of-the-art quantum computing systems and their associated test setups. You’ll work in close collaboration with an international team of engineers and physicists.
Your responsibilities could include:
• Developing RF signal processing chains (generation, amplification, and processing) for low-frequency applications.
• Contributing to the design of microwave field delivery on processor microchips, including both local and global fields.
• Planning and executing test strategies for antennas and waveguides transmitting microwave fields into processor chips.
• Performing simulation and optimization of waveguide models and near-field antennas to ensure production and manufacturing feasibility.
• Supporting mechanical design efforts, factoring in microwave field constraints.
• Working with engineers and suppliers to align technical requirements and specifications.
What You Bring
• Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
• 5+ years of professional experience in R&D or engineering environments.
• Solid knowledge of RF and microwave fields in cryogenic and vacuum setups.
• Practical expertise in microwave system characterization.
• Background with low-noise, analog, and/or digital electronics, including experience at cryogenic temperatures.
• Familiarity with waveguide and near-field simulations.
• Skilled in COMSOL Multiphysics, particularly the RF module.
• Hands-on experience with real-time processing systems and FPGAs.
Nice to Have
• PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with a focus on microwave technologies.
• Ability to learn and apply new hardware and software tools with independence.
• German communication skills.
