An early-stage biotech start-up in Oxford is seeking a Molecular Biologist / Scientist to lead proof-of-concept experiments for a sequence-activated therapeutic platform. This is an initial 6-month contract role aimed at generating key data to support seed-round fundraising. Backed by a renowned VC / Start-Up Accelerator, this could develop into a much more substantial long-term opportunity.

 

Scientist (Molecular Biology) 6-Month Contract

Location: Oxford

Start Date: As soon as possible you must be immediately available

Compensation: Pro-rata Salary circa £50k

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and optimise experiments in plasmid construct.
  • Perform molecular cloning and associated techniques (PCR, Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate Cloning, restriction enzyme and sequence validation).
  • Conduct trial-and-error optimisation of plasmid design and expression systems.
  • Maintain accurate experimental records, data organisation, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with founders to plan experiments that generate key fundraising data.

 

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • PhD or Masters (or equivalent experience) in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Synthetic Biology, or a related discipline.
  • Strong technical expertise in:
    • PCR, cloning, and plasmid design
    • Gibson Assembly and construct troubleshooting
    • DNA sequence analysis and validation
