Name: Sebastian Baranski
Born: Piotrkow Trybunalski (Poland)
Position: Senior Recruitment Consultant
You joined CT19 August 2021, tell us about the reasons for moving from your previous company?
There were multiple reasons for joining, although I should add that I wasn’t actively looking for a role when Chris reached out.
I previously worked for Teaching Personnel who are a larger company, and they specialise in the recruitment of teachers into Primary & Secondary schools. The main reason that I initially engaged with Chris is because I have a scientific degree (Medicinal & Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Loughborough).
After speaking with Chris, I realised that he was presenting the opportunity to join a business where my voice would be heard, opinion valued, and I could utilise my scientific background which intrigued me greatly.
So, you have a scientific degree, why not lab role?
I realised in the 4th year of my degree that I didn’t want to work in a lab full-time. I really enjoyed learning about ‘the science’ but applying it in a practical setting was not something I wanted to do.
People are my passion and having the opportunity to utilise my degree and interact with scientists, engineers, and software specialists etc…seemed like the perfect scenario.
Why CT19?
I wanted to work for a business where I was rewarded for my hard work, and a place where my voice was heard. Some people may see it as a bit of a risk joining a ‘start-up’ recruitment business, but I saw it as an opportunity – and one that I am thoroughly enjoying.
Chris talked with me about being one of the first people in the team, and the opportunities that could arise in 2-5 years’ time – that’s what got me excited.
What do you enjoy the most about your role?
I am given trust and autonomy to perform, I am not micromanaged, and I am supported to make my own decisions.
Despite being an agency recruiter, I am leading a big recruitment project for one of our clients, Nuclera. This essentially means that I am 100% dedicated to working with the team at Nuclera, and helping them scale the business post Series-B.
The project started in October 2021, and to date we have hired 38 people – I am really proud of that.
I know you’ve only worked for two recruitment businesses, what makes CT19 what it is?
There is genuinely no micro-management. The leadership team have set clear goals and objectives, and I am trusted to execute and deliver upon them. It’s a commercial environment, and there is pressure that comes with any ‘sales’ role – but the pressure I feel is self-inflicted, and not driven by the management team at CT19.
We have a flexible approach to work, and life. I am trusted to organise and manage my own time.
What do you want to achieve over the next 5-years?
On a professional level I would like to be part of the Senior Leadership Team. I’m not entirely sure what this looks like, but perhaps a team of 5-10 people, working a specific territory for CT19. That’s the great thing about life at CT19, I am in control of my own future, and with the help of the SLT I know I can achieve my goals.
Personally, a nice house with a south facing garden…and two dogs. I don’t mind what breed, but they need to get on with my rabbits!
Tell us about Seb outside of work?
I love going to the gym. I really enjoy American Sports (Basketball & American Football). My favourite Basketball team is the Toronto Raptors!
