R&D Surface Chemist
Location: Cambridge

You will be part of our R&D team, working on the development and optimisation of our innovative biosensor platform at the interface of electronics and biology. You will work together with our multidisciplinary team of surface chemists and hardware engineers. Your responsibility is to develop surface functionalisation chemistries for our sensor platform and to experimentally test their performance. As part of the larger R&D team, you will analyse and present your data and participate in the product development.

Your responsibilities
• Develop surface functionalisation chemistries for biosensor platform
• Perform surface characterisation to determine characteristics such as uniformity and stability
• Validate different surface functionalisation chemistries regarding their performance as part of the protein assay
• Work together with the R&D team to troubleshoot complex problems
• Provide support for product development
• Research novel application areas

Minimum requirements
• PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, surface chemistry or related fields
• Experience with surface chemistry and conjugation
• Experience with modification of surfaces for attachment of biomolecules such as proteins and DNA
• Lab experience and proven knowledge of surface characterisation techniques, such as Raman spectroscopy, contact angle measurement, FTIR, AFM or similar

Desirable Experience:
• Industry experience working on functionalization of surfaces with biomolecules
• Experience in building, testing, and characterising electrochemical biosensors
• Experience working with graphene and related thin film materials
• Experience working in a cleanroom environment
• Familiar with data analysis and visualisation tools like Python and R
