An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Software Engineer / Software Engineering Manager to join a Next Generation Sequencing Biotechnology Start-up in London. The purpose of this role is to oversee all aspects of software design and development of the Next Generation Sequencing Software which will be used within medical diagnostic devices.

Salary: DOE + Benefits (25 days holiday, 4% Pension, Private Health Care, numerous soft benefits)

Responsibilities / Experience:

  • Extensive hands-on and management experience in software development for medical devices classified as Class 2 and/or Class 3
  • Extensive hands-on experience of software lifecycle management for medical devices and developing new processes / methods as business needs change
  • Experience and knowledge of programming in C, C++, C#, and Python languages
  • Experience with Egnyte, QPulse, IEC 62304, Ubuntu, Canonical, Open Stack,
  • Expertise in FDA design control requirements (21 CFR 820.30) as applied to medical device software and medical device regulations including ISO 13485, ISO 14971, Cybersecurity, IEC 62366, and IEC 62304
  • Experience of program risk management, able to apply risk principles to business situations
  • Significant technical knowledge of Windows and Linux servers, network and data infrastructure, and security
  • Understanding of EN ISO/IEC 27000 Information technology — Security techniques
  • Experience working in an international context and managing projects in several time zones
  • Lead the design, development, and delivery of innovative, elegant software for our IVD products and internal R&D programs
  • Develop, maintain, and improve software lifecycle processes, methods and tools including adherence to necessary standards
  • Lifecycle includes requirements gathering, architecting, specification development, code development, design reviews, requirements traceability, unit and integration testing, issue/bug tracking, version control, deployment, maintenance, and obsolescence
  • Standards include quality, risk management, data privacy and cybersecurity with associated internal and third-party audits
  • Work with our Bioinformatics team to integrate their analysis tools and algorithms into our products and test rigs
  • Work with our IT team to ensure all necessary tools and infrastructure are in place, validated and managed to support our software development and deployment needs
  • Create software development plans aligned with our internal processes
  • Identify suitable third-party subcontractors where needed and define work packages
  • Monitor progress against plans and report out to senior management and external stakeholders
  • Leadership and line management of Software Team Leads: setting objectives, performance reviews, building a high-performance software team
  • Define best practices in software design and development, grow and develop software capabilities in the company including staff recruitment, training, and coaching / mentoring
  • Manage all software resources to support company product development goals
  • Oversee third-party subcontractors for software development
  • Work with our IT team to define procedures for data handling and information security and ensure these are followed
