2      Description Reporting to the Head of Operations, this role will encompass managing teams producing electro-mechanical scientific instruments, microfabricated glass microfluidic devices and nanoparticles.
Working closely with the Manufacturing Engineering, Compliance and Planning teams, the role will ensure the highest levels of product quality and manufacturing good practice, and be responsible for making sure that our products are built in a timely fashion according to planned production schedules.
 
Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Input and suggest manufacturing improvements to the Manufacturing Engineering Team.
  • Take responsibility for all production tools.
  • Maintain technical production equipment according to the Planned Maintenance Schedule.
  • Establish optimal batch sizes for all products.
  • Driving production efficiency improvements, for example 7 wastes, 5S.
  • Work with the Manufacturing Engineering Manager to ensure:
    • Strict adherence to defined manufacturing protocols, procedure and work instructions.
    • Correct use of the production aspects of the MRP system to well defined rules and procedures.
    • Production Release of new products introduced into Production.
  • Work with the Planner to ensure:
    • The Master Production Schedule is defined and products are brought into stock according to stipulated timescales.
    • Manage all Works Orders and WIP through the production cycle, including raising, editing and bringing into stock.
  • Work with the Compliance Manager to ensure:
    • Production is carried out according to defined quality procedure and standards.
    • Production of select products according to Good Manufacturing Practice (GxP).
    • Production is conducted to defined Health & Safety procedures and standards.
  • Liaise with the Finance team to report on and improve labour cost variances.
  • You will also have other line manager responsibilities such as:
    • Training existing staff.
    • Recruiting, interviewing, and training new staff.
    • Overseeing the daily workload of the team.
    • Providing constructive and timely performance evaluations.
    • Setting and managing team KPIs and Objectives.
  • Monitoring and improving productivity rates and labour bookings & efficiency.

 
 
Desirable Skills:
 

  • You must have at least 3 years’ experience in a similar role, specifically with core expertise in the manufacture of scientific instruments and systems.
  • Previous experience of manufacturing within highly regulated environments, eg GMP or ISO13485 is desirable but not essential.
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communications skills (written and oral).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • A pragmatic and conciliatory approach to fulfilling the duties defined.
  • Good practical knowledge of an ERP or MRP software in a production context.
