The ideal candidate will be a highly technical and experienced Principal Optical Engineer with 7+ years of industry experience. This role will offer a candidate a unique opportunity to apply knowledge and experience in Optical, Opto-mechanical or Opto-electronic Projects. This position is suitable for someone who is highly technical and would enjoy working collaborative in an R&D and Manufacturing settings.
Principal Optical Engineer

Location: Office in Farringdon (some WFH flexibility)
Desirable Experience:
- MSc / PhD in Optics, Physics, Medical Imaging or a related field.
- 7 years+ of hands-on industry experience (or equivalent) in optical design and engineering.
- Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation using solid engineering principles and adhering to business standards and product requirements.
- Proven experiences working on Infrared lasers (IR Lasers).
- Good working experience in Software-orientated systems.
- Understanding of Mechanical and Electrical designs associated with Optical systems.
- Strong knowledge on optical safety compliance, e.g. IEC 60825-1.
- Experience in the full product development cycle of optical systems from R&D through to manufacture.
- Knowledge of electronic interfacing and electro-optic modelling.
- Experience with interferometers, optical test & alignment equipment, and metrology methods.
- Familiar with optical driving circuitry and optical detection technology.
- A solid grasp of engineering and fundamental physics to understand the broader design and development considerations of complex instrumentation.
- Experience managing equipment and projects, including specification development, supplier selection, technical reviews, and tooling installation.
